Absolutely poor communication, around 15 un answered emails. The vet made a mistake with the note history which is stopping my insurance paying out.

My advise to anybody needing a vet is frankly DO NOT USE.
My 7-month-old puppy needed emergency surgery or he would die. They said I must pay £2500 upfront to have this done. I have not got £2500, I asked if I could pay them monthly , a big fat no was the reply.
They said I had options which were the following
1 - pay the money
2 - sign him over to them, they would then do the operation and then give him to a charity to rehome but I would not have him back
3 - put him to sleep .
Thank fully for the PDSA who stepped in and saved him.
I thought the vets at Hengrove were there for the animals when in fact it all comes down to money which is disgusting.
Then when I needed to get him to the PDSA the vets at Hengrove would not release my very sick dog until I paid £618, again they knew how sick he was and needed urgent attention and was more concerned about money.
Absolutely disgusting. I cannot stress enough to not use The Vet at Hengrove they do not have care about treating your sick pet, it’s all about money.
I do not rate them at all but I had to do a rating in order to post this

Rubbish - I have just changed to them and at the first appointment it took ages to see a vet. In the consultation, the chap was good and said we needed x-rays. I booked a 9 am appointment and by 10 am I was still waiting - a nurse then came out and said that the weekend vet was a locum and hadn't completed the notes very well. I moved vets because the last lot used to do the same thing so I simply walked out. I can not recommend to anyone

Took in my cat on a Saturday, was waiting less than 5 minutes (when online said 23 min wait) and received very attentive care from female vet, who listened and explained things very well, and my usually shy cat was very amazingly relaxed with. Listened to and appreciated my thoughts on the natural approach to medicine I have with my cats, so medicine and homemade natural treatments can compliment each other. Top marks!

I’d like to share our experience with The Vet, Hengrove as a word of warning to anyone considering joining this practice. We joined last year after adopting our rescue puppy Vida, as it was a bit cheaper than the local vets, so we thought we would register her there. A few months later Vida was struck by a car whilst out on a walk. Luckily she ran into the side of it, rather than going under it. We rushed her to an emergency vet, where they looked after her, and after a few hours we took her home, and monitored her overnight. The next morning we took her to The Vet, Hengrove where she was examined by one of the vets. We were worried that she had broken her front right leg as she was limping on it quite badly. The vet examined her swollen leg and told us that she thought it wasn’t broken. We were surprised but also relieved to hear this. At no point did she ask for a second opinion or suggest x-rays. In fact I asked her if it was worth getting x-rays, which she said ‘you can, but I don’t think it’s necessary. It doesn’t feel broken.’
Given we had only taken out insurance that week we were not covered for any of this, and given the hundreds of pounds it costs and the words of re-assurance from the vet we decided not to. The dog was clearly limping but was also using the leg. The vet told us not to stop her from using the leg. So that’s what we did. We let her use the leg and after a week the swelling had gone down and we could see there was something very wrong. There was a big bump in her leg where the bones were clearly broken. We took her back to the vets where they took x-rays and confirmed it was broken, but by this point she had been running around the house on the vets advice for a week!

Eventually, after feeling like we were being let down we spoke to the head vet, She explained that the vet we saw didn’t think it was broken, and she had the dog’s best interest at heart. I’ve no doubt that’s the truth, but we relied on them as the experts to make the correct assessment, and if there was any doubt in her mind, then she should have suggested we have the leg x-rayed. The vet was unprepared to take any responsibility for the mistakes her team had made. At this point, we just wanted to fix the situation as best we could as the leg was healing wonky. This involved them putting her leg in a splint for several weeks, which ended up rubbing all the fur off her leg and cutting deep into her flesh. Eventually, they stopped putting her leg in a splint. We then spent several hundreds of pounds on further x-rays and scans to find out the severity of the problem and whether it would require surgery.

After an inconclusive diagnosis, we had to wait a further few months, pay hundreds of pounds more for further scans and await the results of that. The entire time we felt like we were being sent from pillar to post, seeing different vets each time, without ever seeing a specialist. During this time, there were several issues with them not contacting me when they said they would with results. I would eventually phone back and would be told on numerous occasions that they had left me a message when they had not. After a while, I asked them to read back the numbers they had and they had 3 phone numbers. Mine, my girlfriends and a completely random number, nothing to do with us, that they had clearly been leaving messages on for weeks!
Sometimes the x-rays would be late, and rather than informing us, we would have to phone them. I began to find the level of incompetence frustrating and inexcusable. After spending thousands of pounds we were told that the dog wouldn’t need surgery and could live with the now re-formed bent leg. After this we began to notice the leg was continuing to bow, so took her to another vet for a second opinion. They were clear just from looking at it that it would require surgery, and we were referred to Highcroft referrals. Vida ended up having to have a very serious, and extremely expensive operation where her leg had to be re-broken, and a metal plate four inches long screwed into her bone. Following this was 8 weeks of having to look after a dog with a broken leg, both of us sleeping on a mattress on the floor in the living room as the dog had to be crate bound or on a leash in a room without furniture so she couldn’t run or jump. Even days before her surgery, despite several attempts from Highcroft to retrieve her x-rays from The Vet, no-one ever sent them over. We had photo’s of them on our phone that we had to provide the surgeon. How ridiculous! The toll this took on us emotionally, and financially was great. We had to take time off work, we had to deal with all the stresses and upset of months of seeing our dog in pain and discomfort, as well as the total bill after surgery, scans and appointments coming in at £8000!
All of this could and should have been avoided if the original vet hadn’t misdiagnosed her injury. The stream of further mistakes makes the whole thing inexcusable. We have been left to feel very upset and angry about the situation. Our focus since has been on the dog. Thankfully she is now fit and well again, and we have her registered at Highcroft who have been fantastic. As it stands we haven’t even had an apology.

Visit to The VET at Hengrove Bristol
The Veterinarians at Hengrove are the most caring I have come across, I would recommend to everyone the service and time taken is more thorough than my GP at the same time the costs are kept lower than my previous Vets.

Sensitive & efficient service
The service offered was second to none. Very friendly and sensitive staff (guinea pig had to be put to sleep). Minimal wait (despite it being a walk-in centre). Low fees. Sent a lovely card a couple of weeks later, saying "Our thought are with you" - very nice touch.
