The Nethergate is a characterful period building dating back to around 1750.  Originally an old manse, it has been renovated to a high standard, but as a listed building it still retains many of its quirky and unusual features.

Nearby Attractions

Kinghorn has two beautiful sandy beaches and great transport links by car or rail.  Handy for Edinburgh or day trips to Dunfermline, Perth, St. Andrews and beyond, or rambles along the beach or the Fife Coastal Path, it's an ideal base for a varied and exciting break.

Edinburgh with its famous castle and many other attractions is a must-see. In August you have the world-famous Edinburgh Festival, Fringe and Military Tattoo.

St. Andrews, the home of golf, is great for golfers, as is Gleneagles. However, Kinghorn has a great golf course and over 40 fine courses are close by.

For the kids, there is a good variety of activities and days out within a short drive.

We had a brilliant stay at The Nethergate at the end of June. The property is fantastic and absolutely perfect for anyone staying with dogs. The location of the house to the beach is great and provided a perfect run around for our pooch. The little extras were simply wonderful. We would whole heartedly recommend The Nethergate - a stunning place to have a holiday. We will definitely be back.

I stayed here with a few friends and our dogs. We had a superb time. The beach is pretty much the garden. The facilities were second to none - making for a an easy time for cooking in as we had everything we needed.

Great company, nice food and the most important factor - the dogs were so chilled and happy. We had several big dogs and the owners couldn't have been more welcoming and encouraging towards the dogs - which isn't always the case, as us dog lovers know. There were even dog treats left.

The area has plenty to do for outside enthusiasts and lots of great smells and walks for the pups!

Highly recommend.

We have just had a week at The Nethergate with our 2 little dogs. The cottage is very well equipped and Tahra left us some wine and treats for the dogs. The beach is a couple of minutes away and the dogs loved it there. Our friend who came along is a keen photographer and does not drive. The station is just over the road so he used the train to get to alot of places along the coast. We had days out to Dunfermline and At Andrews both an easy drive away. The Nethergate is minutes away from the coastal path for keen walkers and longer dog walks.
The Ship in Kinghorn does excellent food and the co op supermarket very close.
Glasgow and Edinburgh are easy train rides away.
The cottage is very comfortable and had everything we needed. We hope to return.

My husband, myself and Martha (our mini Schnauzer) thoroughly enjoyed our stay from start to finish. The cottage met our expectations in every way. clean, spacious, comfortable, well equipped for us and our dog. We had good communications with Tahra both before and during our stay and whilst we let ourselves into the cottage on arrival, it was welcoming with a bowl of water and dog treats ready for Martha. The location just around the corner from the beach and a stones throw from the Fife Coastal path was likewise perfect for doggy walks and play. We would definitely recommend and love to return.

We spent a most enjoyable week at the Nethergate in April. Our Labrador Lexi loved it. She had a cosy bed to sleep in, and water supplied on arrival. There was a supply of doggy treats left for her too and a sunny garden to relax in. The area was perfect for a big, lively dog too. She enjoyed long walks on Pettycur and Kinghorn beaches, the Fife Coastal path and further afield on the West Sands at St Andrew's. All in all the perfect billet for a sociable, lively dog! Her minders enjoyed it very much too.
