Veggie Cubes

Preparation time:  10 minutes

You will need:

A selection of leftover vegetables such as carrot, broccoli stalks, cabbage stalks, sweet potato, squash or pumpkin

A splash of pressed Olive oil

Water

You can also add: a pinch of cayenne or black pepper and turmeric

Method:

1.  Peel and chop the vegetables.  Place the ingredients in a large saucepan and cover with water and cook over a low heat for about 30 minutes

2. Remove from heat and leave to cool.

3. Strain the mix and pour into an ice cube tray and freeze.  

For easy storage remove the frozen Veggie cubes and store in a freezer bag.  Be sure to clearly label the bag with the date.  

Can be kept frozen for up to 3 months.

A simple bone broth recipe like the one below is incredibly easy and cheap to make. Bone broth recipes are a really tasty and versatile addition to a dog's diet and have loads of benefits:

• Bone broth promotes a healthy digestive system

• Helps to keep joints supple and pain free 

• Bone broth can act as a liver detox

 Please remember though that bone broth is a dietary supplement, NOT a substitute for a meal.

Preparation Time: 20 mins

Cooking time Slow Cooker 12 - 24 hours (the longer the better)

You will need:

Bones - Beef Marrowbone, Chicken Carcass - You can substitute chicken with pork, lamb, beef and game bones.

x 2 Tablespoons Raw Apple Cider Vinegar or Lemon Juice - it draws the minerals out of the bone

Cold Water

You can also add: Carrots, Sweet Potato, Turmeric, Sage, Thyme, Parsley

Method

1. Pre heat the slow cooker on a low setting for about 15 minutes.

2.  Add all of the ingredients to the pot and cover with water by a couple of inches and leave to cook for about 20 hours

3. Remove from heat and leave to cool.

4.  Strain all of the bones and vegetables from the liquid and discard. Once chilled skim any excess fat from the surface of the broth. Do not give the bones to your dog.

3. Transfer the cooled broth to a suitable container and refrigerate for up to 3 days. Alternatively, pour the cooled broth into an ice cube tray and freeze.

For easy storage remove the frozen bone broth cubes and store in a freezer bag. Be sure to clearly label the bag with the date. Can be kept frozen for up to 3 months.

Before serving check the temperature of the broth - it should be just slightly warm.

Do not give your dog any of the bones used in this recipe.

Banana Cookies

Makes                    30-40 cookies

Preparation time:       15 minutes

Cooking time:       15-20 minutes

You will need:

 - 300g (10 oz) Wheat and gluten free flour

 - 1 egg beaten

 - 1 Small banana mashed

 - 1 Tablespoon raw honey

 - 2 Tablespoons olive oil

 - 1 Tablespoon virgin, unrefined Coconut Oil

 - 2 Tablespoons cold water

Preparation

1. Mix all the ingredients together in a large mixing bowl until they come together to form a dough.  If the mixture is too dry add a little more cold water.  

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface until firm then roil out to a thickness of 5 cm.  Cut out your cookies using your chosen cookie cutter.

2.  Transfer the cookies on to a greased baking sheet leaving 1 cm between each cookie and brush with the beaten egg.  Bake in a preheated oven 160 C for 15-30 minutes.  

Remove from oven and leave to cool on a wire rack.  

   

Store in an airtight container and keep in a fridge for up to 3 days.

Offering your dog an occasional small portion of a banana will provide him with a tasty treat and some nutritional benefits also. Bananas are rich in potassium and vitamin C.
