After my cat uses the litter box she scoots her butt across our carpet and leaves skid marks. We have shaved the area, and she has no other health problems. Any tips to get her to stop? We have had enough.

Hi, Some cats will just do this without any explanation but it can also is often a sign of discomfort or itchiness so I’d be very quick to suggest she is checked by a vet as most of these things cannot be assessed by owners. It could be anything causing mild irritation to actual discomfort or pain. Some of the more common causes are constipation, diarrhoea, fleas, worms, anal gland disease, rectal tumours/polyps and a cause of itchiness in that area is allergic disease which would include flea allergy (so you don’t have to see live fleas).

Shaving hair very short can cause itchiness just as it can in people with sensitive skin– I’m unsure from your post whether this was done before or after the scooting started but might be worth bearing in mind.

Best wishes
