My Cat Has A Raw Area On Her Neck

My cat developed a horrid raw, almost looking like a rip around her neck. I took her to my one local vet who advised me of the following: "This is what flea infestation looks like"  My problem is this, my cat does not have a single flea on her!!! Any help?? All suggestions welcome.

What you describe sounds like flea allergic dermatitis - this is very common in dogs and cats and is caused by the cat having an allergic reaction to a flea bite.  This raw area is caused by the cat scratching and licking itself until the skin is broken and can then become infected.

You may not see the fleas if your pet is very sensitive as they will be groomed out of the coat by the itchy cat licking itself all the time, but trust me they are there on your pets and in your house.  you can treat the itch and the skin infection with antibiotics, but if the fleas are not addressed it will just come back- it is crucial to use a good quality flea product regularly all year round to prevent this from happening to your cat
