Wow all reviews 5*, never take your pet to vet4pets
Our beloved cat was seen at vets4pets following an attack by a dog. No treatment would commence untill we agreed to pay. So an initial opp. for a hernia was done along with an xray. All other organs were fine. So in order for her to recover she needed to come out of shock and show signs of improvement, the vet said. Well Jerry had come out of shock long ago (from what I could see, she wanted to remove her drip and was trying to lick herself)...she was showing signs of improvement...then she just started to slowly decline. Jerry in the end was left on a drip inside an oxygen chamber...on the hope that she would come out of shock. Well she had come out of shock long ago, she was just left in there to get colder and colder untill the life drained out of her and she went into a coma. If she was passing blood and not urine surely some investigative surgery should have been the next step. But no further examinations or operations were done. She didn't survive :( We were asked afterwards whether we wanted to bury or cremate her by the vet...we said cremate. When we phoned the next day to ask when we could pick up her ashes...we were told, oh sorry but she was put into a communal cremation. I rang the practice manager who had spoken to the vet. The vet felt as though money was an issue so didn't discuss cremation in further detail. All I can say is that you need to make very clear with them at the start that you can pay all costs so please do everything you can for my pet, otherwise they might assume like in my case that you are penny less and end up doing the bare minimum for your pet. Absolutely appalled by the service, mainly the vet. I hope this real review highlights money always comes before care, hope it helps. Take your pet somewhere else, please. Rest In Peace Jerry

Response Posted by Admin on behalf of Vets4Pets - Northampton

As you can imagine we are very disappointed to have a client come away from a visit to the practice and feel they have not been given the best possible treatment.

Jerry was presented as an emergency at the clinic by the RSPCA. She was unconscious and had been attacked by a dog. She was immediately assessed by the vet
and placed on intravenous fluids, given opiod analgesia and placed on oxygen and a heat pad. Jerry was in extreme shock at this point from the attack.
Once the treatment for shock and analgesia had been started costs were then discussed with the owner.

We explained Jerry had severe injuries from the dog attack, and gave an estimate for overnight care to which the owner agreed after several minutes deliberating whether to carry on with treatment. Jerry then received oxygen therapy, intravenous fluids and analgesia for the next few hours. This is the recognised treatment for shock in cats. Jerry did initially respond but then deteriorated.

The vet explained that he had severe injuries from the dog attack, and despite doing everything we could for Jerry he unfortunately deteriorated and a decision
was made to euthanase him on humane grounds. Everything that was possible was done to treat Jerry.
Surgery was not indicated as Jerry was in severe shock and it is well recognised that an animal must be stabilised before any surgery is indicated. To describe the treatment Jerry received as "bare minimum" is incorrect - Jerry received gold standard care and treatment as does every animal that visits the practice here in Northampton.

The vet did discuss with the owner whether they would like to take Jerry home with them and it was decided that they did not wish to do that and cremation was the preferred option. As finances had been a consideration when discussing Jerry's treatment the vet did make an assumption that a group cremation would
be the more cost effective option for the owner. This was done with the best possible intentions and intended to reduce the stress and upset for the client. To hear later on that the client's son was not happy with that decision is regrettable and obviously very unfortunate, but again we would reiterate it was with the intention of reducing further upset.

The dissatisfaction raised by the owner's son did not occur until nearly a week later. Had they phoned in the following several days of the attack, we would still have been able to change the cremation arrangements. This comment is not intended as an excuse in anyway, but to state that there was a time window where the family could have changed the situation. All in all this has been a very regrettable situation and a shock for the owner to lose Jerry so suddenly and quickly.
When speaking to the owner's son, I did offer to write or phone the owner again to express our regret and condolences at that time but this offer was refused.

We have been taking our Gordon Setters' to Jenny for about 10years, and so when she opened Vets4Pets Northampton we didn't hesitate to follow her there. The team she has are amazing; professional, friendly, kind and always especially attentive and sympathetic to our boys, past and present. Whilst its always a struggle to get them through the door 'Aunty Jenny' always makes them better. We couldn't recommend this practice highly enough.

We take all of our cats there (5 of them) and from a tail amputation, a skin problem and a bite to the bum as well as the spays they have done for us, we feel that the service you get is well worth every penny you spend there and more. You cannot put any price on the feeling you get as an owner, walking through their doors and feeling like you can trust them 110% with you animal. The prices are very very reasonable but it is the service that keeps us there. After a spay or an op they always call the next day to check up on the animal and i can honestly say that the first time they did that to us, we were shocked that they cared enough to do that a day later. I have never experienced another vets that do that.

We have plenty of vets on our doorstep but we would rather travel 15 mins across town to Vets4Pets. Jenny and her team including the receptionists always make you feel at ease, ring you as soon as they can and put you at ease. This is a rare veterinary practice where everything they do is done because they want to make a difference and to make animals better. We had the unfortunate experience of having to visit the out of hours vet on a Sunday and the service was shocking, everything there was about the money and we were made to feel that if we didn't pay over £800 there and then for a tail amputation our cat may not last the night. As we didn't have £800 for it, it was a very nervous night and yet when we turned up first thing at Vets4Pets with no appointment or anything, we felt relieved and welcomed and Jenny was absolutely fantastic as she reassured us that it wasn't life threatening to have left it overnight. Massive thanks to Jenny and her team for the wonderful work and service they provide and a huge thank you to the lovely receptionists who put you at ease the moment you walk in. You all do a fantastic job and 5 stars is not even close to what you guys should get.

We have been taking our 2 Ginger tom cats Oscar & Arnie to jenny and team for nearing 2 years now and in that time we have found them all to be so helpful and friendly. when ever ive had a problem i've picked up the phone and theres either brilliant advice on the other end or an appointment that day. They treat the animals with such care and love and jenny treats them like they would be her own :-) i would not hesitate to recommend this practice to anyone . From the minute you walk through the door you feel completely at ease from the friendly faces on reception and know they will do all they can to help your pet with whatever care they need. Well done and thank you to jenny and team from bringing such a fab practice to our doorstep ! :-)

I have been with Jenny as a vet for many years and when she set up Vets4Pets Northampton I moved all my furries with her. I happily recommend her to all of my friends whether they want to know or not :) Prices are not the reason (although I appreciate it may be for some) I stay with her - even if it's over 40 minutes in the car from us, but because I trust 100% what Jenny and her team do and tell me. Recently my beloved cat developed some pretty bad problems and I may have only a year or I may have many years to look after him yet but I know that until he passes away Jenny will always be his vet and I know she will honestly let me know when the time has come... what more than you wish for in a vet :) xxx

I have all my animals registered with Jenny at Vets 4 Pets Northampton and will continue to do so as they are the most welcoming and friendly practise I have EVER been to. They explain everything properly and don't treat you like their next pay check like alot of others do!
I have been with them since they opened and they have supported me through bad times - losing 6 puppies from a litter of 7 :-( and good times and someone is always available to give advice over the phone if need be.
I cannot fault this practise and I have recommended them to everybody I know in Northampton with pets and will continue to do so.

I have been registered at vets4pets since december last year and all the staff are fantastic, nothing is too much trouble for them and they actually care about the animals, the staff come across like its not 'just a job'. The head vet is great, my late gsd loved her and was always very pleased to see her and the whole team were very helpful during our sad time of loosing him and have equally welcomed our new pup in to the practice....we will always stay with this team as my dog used to shake going into our previous vets but had a huge waggy tail when we started going to vets 4 pets .......says it all for me :)
Every animal that walks through their door is equally made a fuss of and owners are made to feel very welcome .......Thanks guys...keep up the good work xx

I've been registered at Vets 4 Pets in Northampton since the practice opened and wouldn't take my 2 moggies, 10 Maine coons (and counting) and 2 dogs anywhere else.

The staff are all friendly and helpful, be it on the phone, by email or in person. They give clear to understand advice and, when there is an issue with your pet, they talk you through the options available to reach the best course of action for your pet. The staff actually listen to what you have to say and accept that you know your own animals so know when something is wrong - they then work hard to find out what the problem and solutions are.

My animals love going into the practice, they get so much fuss from everyone and we get treated like individuals not 'just another patient'.
